OREGON,USA - Ms. Aluel Emanuel Lang, 11, originally from Yirol of South Sudan, on Sunday, June 8, took the third gold medal in Salem Oregon, USA. Aluel took the lead from her team-members right from the start during a 800-feet race. She looked behind three times during a double lap run, which was a mistake - her coach would blame her for, were her competitors to take over.
However, she seemed not to care about those glances as she was making sure nobody would pass her. She took her third medal by a token win when she reached the finishing point 3 minutes ahead of the second girl.
Aluel got two medals the previous day, when she took another unquestionable lead during a hundred feet run and the second position in a relay run. The race was the semi-final quarter statewide primary which will be used to pick the best athletes from regional competition coming up soon. The on-looking spectators are overheard making this comment, she has such long legs that she jumps over the steps of two kids.” Aluel is too young still to compete for the oncoming Olympics in China but her goal is to be a star runner. She hopes to participate in olympics in her life time. Her records in these primaries are strong enough to take her to the west coast regional athletic competition which is annually held in Seattle, Washington. Aluel started practicing when she was 8. Not forgetting her caring father, Emanuel Lang is always on the wheels to make sure Aluel participates in any kind of competition. “It requires both parents to raise successful children in this country and anywhere,” Emanuel told Gurtong. I have given up all my personal pleasures to get them the kind of future they must have,” he lamented. Emanuel and his wife, Abuk, Aluel’s mother, both moved to Portland Oregon in 1993 to find peace as the civil war enraged in South Sudan. Despite the hardship of working unskilled jobs, they have put their individual happiness behind and are united to work hard in order to create a bright future for their beautiful daughters and a son.
