Russian Special Envoy Official Visit To South Sudan

A high level delegation from the Russian Federation arrived in Juba yesterday morning, received by the Minister of Regional Cooperation. The delegation was headed by the Special Envoy of the President and the Head of the Council of the Federation Committee for Foreign Affairs Mr. Michail Margelov, accompanied by Mr. Alexey Volin and Mr. Evgeny Gaverdovsky experts of the Council of the Federation, as well as 8 representatives of the Russian Mass Media.
During a press statement to the local media Mr. Margelov stated that a Political dialogue is more productive than any fight, and that his Country believed in building bridges. He mentioned that their visit is on a positive note and they have in depth tasks in Southern Sudan; to see how they can assist in development. Mr. Margelov revealed that Russia would be closely involved in the UN Security Council meeting and that their visit will help in creating an opinion; having their own views on what the situation is really like on the ground. On a Final note he thanked the Government of Southern Sudan for the several meetings to take place with the senior government officials.
This is a first time for a Russian high level delegation to visit Juba Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin the Minister of Regional Cooperation noted to the Media and expressed that Russia also has a role they can play in assisting in the development of Southern Sudan. The minister also mentioned that Sudan both North and South have a lot to learn from the Russian Federation.
On the morning of their arrival they met with the First Vice of the Republic of Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan H.E Salva Kiir Mayardiit, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the SPLM Southern Sector, the Minister of Presidential affairs, and will also be meeting with the Speaker this morning.
