Chad Clobbers Sudan 2-1 in Cairo game, Kicking Sudan out of 2010 World Cup Qualifications
2008-09-09 19:06CAIRO, EGYPT– Sudan’s national football team lost its first match against Chad on Saturday in Cairo, Egypt. The score was 2 to 1. The first goal was scored by Chadian striker Mobaym Meris in the first 28 minutes.
In the second half, Sudan’s Haitham Tambil evened the score in the 32nd minute by scoring the side’s only goal. Chadian Hassan Diallo finally scored the winning goal in the 40th minute of the second half.
The Sudan Radio Service correspondent in Cairo said the Sudan team was very weak, particularly on offense and that poor physical fitness appeared to be the problem. Despite the Chadian team’s relative lack of experience, the players appeared to be more physically fit.
The result of this loss is that Sudan is in last place. Any hopes it would qualify for the World Cup have been dashed.
The two teams will meet again in the same stadium on Wednesday (September 10th). The Sudanese and Chadian embassies in Cairo have provided free tickets for their nationals to gain entry to the match.
